Bridge Housing has once again participated in the street counting of Sydney’s rough sleepers.

The 2021 Northern Beaches Homeless Street Sleeping Count found 57 people sleeping on the streets, a 20% drop on 2020 when 71 rough sleepers were identified in the region.

We can credit our Northern Beaches case coordination partnership, as well as Together Home funding, for helping to reduce homelessness on the Northern Beaches.

A team of staff volunteers joined the Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services the Hon. Gareth Ward, the Member for Manly, James Griffin MP and Natalie Ward MLC last night on the Northern Beaches to count people who were sleeping rough.

Local government street counts are an important annual event to better understand the extent and geographical scope of homelessness and to plan homelessness services and more social and affordable housing.

Other volunteers were from Northern Beaches Council, Mission Australia, Community Northern Beaches, DCJ and Homelessness NSW. Bridge Housing staff included Rebecca Pinkstone, Helen Tighe, Ellis Blaikie, Maria Berry, Ray Fatafehi and Maia Ihemeje.

Thank you Manager Pathways Krystal Moores for organising Bridge Housing’s participation.
