Childcare and aged care worker Faith Resus was left without an affordable place to live in Sydney when her brother and family decided to move to the South Coast.

“I had a rent budget and was even willing to extend it a bit. When I saw the HomeGround property advertised I knew that’s what I wanted but couldn’t afford a similar property in the private rent market,” she said.

Philippine-born Faith cares for both the youngest and oldest members of our community, working long hours in two part-time jobs to be secure and financially independent.

“I have a friend who discovered affordable housing but I had no idea how to get into it. HomeGround was very helpful and sent me all the eligibility criteria. My property manager Fiona replied quickly to my emails. She was always on the job!”

Faith’s new studio apartment in Westmead is well-situated for local amenities and public transport, and, importantly for her, is in a safe neighbourhood. “I feel safe in this neighbourhood even when I am starting work early and have to leave home at 5am.”

The neighbours she has met seem friendly, and Faith feels positive about the future.  “I miss my little niece but it’s empowering to have my own home,” she said.
