Bridge Housing celebrated the survival and continuing 60,000 year old culture of Australia’s first people over the weekend at the 2020 Yabun Festival in Sydney on the 26 January 2020.

Yabun, which is held at Victoria Park in Glebe on the land of the Gadigal people, is the largest one-day gathering of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Australia.

Bridge Housing hosted a stall at Yabun for people to come and have a chat with our staff, catch up with old friends, and hear more about our work. Yabun also featured live music, a corroboree ground, market, kids arts and crafts, and a speak out tent.

CEO John Nicolades said: “Yabun is a vibrant celebration of the continuing rich contribution our first peoples make to Australian culture and we are delighted to be part of the festival again this year.”

“For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including some of our residents, January 26 is also a day of sorrow at past and present injustices. We hear them and embrace them as part of our diverse, inclusive community.”

“Our second Reconciliation Action Plan, reflects Bridge Housing’s determination to take practical steps in partnership with our tenants and the broader community to build reconciliation.”
