Bridge Housing’s A Bridge to Work tenant employment program has achieved exceptional results in placing and sustaining residents in meaningful work and study, the National Housing Conference heard today.
Speaking on Day 3 of the conference in Darwin, Bridge Housing Manager Partnerships and Support Coordination Sarah Kingsbeer showcased the initiative launched in July last year. She presented on A Bridge to Work with Matt Little, the CEO of our employment partner CoAct.
The profile of A Bridge to Work clients is 38% from CALD backgrounds, 51% with a disability, 62% female, 6% Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and an average age of 42 years. They have been unemployment for an average of 63 weeks.
The intensive case management approach underpinning A Bridge to Work has achieved the following results for clients in its first 16 months:
- 92% have developed an effective, professional resume
- 100% have improved confidence in the job market
- 76 engagements and 37 placements in employment or study
- 63% are still in their jobs after 13 weeks.
The next stage in A Bridge to Work will be to evaluate and take the learnings from our pilot and to scale the initiative for even greater impact.
