Bridge Housing’s newest Tenant Participation Officer Joanne Newby knows what it is for children to grow up in challenging environments.

With a Masters of Social Work and a Bachelor of Community Welfare, Joanne has immersed herself in children’s welfare and strengthening the communities in which they live.

Before relocating from Taree to Sydney, Joanne was a clinical trauma counsellor with Wesley Dalmar, which provides homes for children and young people who cannot live with their families as part of the New South Wales out-of-home care system.

Joanne also gained valuable experience volunteering at and eventually supporting the management of a Neighbourhood Centre and she continues to deliver child protection education to schoolchildren in Years K-10 through the YWCA’s Y-PEP classroom program.

“What attracted me to Bridge Housing was the lovely working environment, the really lovely tenants and the opportunity to get tenants involved in their communities and improving their life outcomes.”

With three children aged 2-12 years at home, busy does not adequately describe Joanne’s life. She relaxes by taking long walks, reading and playing competitive netball!
