I AM ME AND I AM FREE
Acrylic on framed canvas
by Felix Morgan
This painting is a declaration of identity, freedom, survival, and spirit.
The bird is not trapped inside realism. It is exploding beyond it. Its feathers rise like flames, thoughts, radio signals, prayers, and wild Sydney weather all at once. The eye watches the world with caution and humour, while the body is covered in colourful dots representing experiences, memories, people, pain, joy, mistakes, and moments of transformation.
The work reflects my own journey through many lives in one lifetime: migrant, monk, artist, father, street philosopher, musician, dreamer, outsider, and free soul. Like the bird in this painting, I have often lived outside the cage of normal expectations. Sometimes society calls people “too different,” but difference is where creativity breathes.
The bright blue background represents open space and psychological freedom. The bird stands proudly without apology. It does not ask permission to exist. It simply declares:
“I am me and I am free.”
This painting was created with instinct, movement, and emotional energy rather than strict planning. I wanted the lines to feel alive and slightly untamed, like jazz music played by someone who knows suffering but still laughs loudly at life.
For the Bridge Housing Exhibition, this work celebrates the dignity of individuality and the human need for freedom, belonging, and self-expression. Home is not only a physical place. Sometimes home is the moment you finally accept yourself exactly as you are.

- EMERGING
- Artist
- Felix Morgan
- Artist Statement
“Emerging”captures more than the face of a young boy from Redfern.
It captures a moment between shadow and becoming. The eyes are alert, questioning the world before the world fully questions him back.
Redfern has always carried stories in its streets. Survival. Music. Anger. Humour. Family. Dreams standing at bus stops with worn sneakers and big hearts. This painting is my reflection on young people growing up inside that electric human storm.
I did not want perfection.
I wanted presence.
The loose brushwork and glowing light are intentional. Memory itself is blurry. Childhood moves quickly. One moment a boy is invisible in the crowd, next moment he is emerging into his own identity, his own future, his own battle with the world.
For me, art is not decoration.
Art is evidence that somebody looked deeply at another human being and said:
“I see you.”
This painting belongs to Redfern, Sydney streets, and to every young soul trying to emerge from confusion into dignity.

Expressing the contrast of different mental states.
This triptych explores the evolving nature of self-identity through three ceramic self-portraits, each symbolizing a distinct state of being. The Avatar (light blue) embodies transcendence, detachment, or an idealized self. The Devil (red) represents internal struggles, chaos, or moments of darkness. The Self with Lion’s Fur (brown) reflects resilience, primal strength, and the unfiltered, raw essence of the artist. Te gether, these masks form a visual narrative of transformation, shaped ny the shifting perspectives of living with schizophrenia.

- Working on the mind
- Artist
- Craig Wiles
- Artist Statement
Our minds are far more sophisticated and intellectual than any computer; they are a
complex framework that is constantly evolving and often difficult to keep moving forward.
This work explores the mind as a vortex—a deeply involved space where souls and
thoughts can connect across vast distances. It represents the idea that we share a
collective energy, allowing a person to transcend their physical body and be present
elsewhere in an instant. Through the imagery of skulls and intricate layers, I wanted to map
out this complicated, ongoing process of how our minds perceive reality and connect us to
one another.- Materials

This work explores the internal retraction that happens on the days when happiness feels
out of reach. I wanted to capture the mental state where making even simple decisions
feels like a high-stakes game of chess—constantly trying to calculate the next move in life
while trapped inside your own mind. The dense, abstract patterns at the top of the piece
represent this crowded mental space; they required twenty hours of meticulous work over
three days to complete. Using mixed media and spray paint, Headspace visualises the
intense abstraction of a brain trying to find its way forward.- Materials

- Artist Statement
This was my first painting of 2026 and represents a significant step up in my practice. The
process was long and repetitive—the iconic smiley face alone took a great deal of time and
learning to get right. For me, the work is a direct reflection of my internal state; I have to be
feeling good and capable within myself to create, otherwise the creativity doesn’t flow. This
piece was born out of a period of genuine happiness and clarity, capturing that specific
energy of feeling right and ready to create.- Materials

‘Humanity Awakening’ was born out of sadness And depression during the first of the coronavirus lockdowns. I became even more depressed to hear that depression, suicide,
domestic violence and alcohol consumption increased 200% {300% in some countries} during lockdown. A friend’s father A tragic suicide victim. My heart goes out to anyone who suffered During the pandemic. I created this art to show all the wonderful Things we can also do in lockdown, such as visiting local beaches, Nature walks, crafting, home cooking, meditation, qi-gong, yoga, reading and the wonderful drinks like the millions of teas on the
markets – HEAPS of varieties of black, white, green, fruit, herb, spice, even medicinal. Sometimes, all you need to calm a stressful day is a nice cuppa, though I do sip coffee in moderation! There are also many, many flavours of kombucha, switchel, kefir, And tepache. On the other side of the artwork, all the things we once took for granted, hugging, café and movie visits, fun things like historical re-enactment fairs, LifeLine Book fairs, fan conventions that we will never take for granted again as families, friends and lives are so very precious. The artwork is a collage, the pictures printed at Pioneer Clubhouse
a mental health wellness centre where I am a proud member as well as a volunteer. The background is painted on a upcycled old plastic advertising billboard. My nasty voices hammered me during this art work, berating me and although the horrible things they said cut deep, I ignored them, my soul’s mission as a creatrix much more important. I am passionate to help alleviate and end suffering in our world which can be beautiful and magical as well.- Materials

I had the idea in 2013 when I found the rusted spiral and chicken wire flattened on the road near where I used to live in Bilgola Plateau. I had found two broken play sword hilts in a park on a walk in Narrabeen a year ago an Voilà! This art was born. Made of mostly found items around the Northern Beaches and North Shore. I am a passionate ‘greenie’ :) And wanted to create an artwork to urge and teach people to please Care for our magical world. It took about six months to create, a Labour of love. It has a section for children – yes that 10 litre water bottle was found {in Brookvale.} When I told a passer-by my plans, he said “I wish more people would care.” :) I hope this

I loved the vibrant colours of the 1980s, growing up in my tween and teen years, the decade
seemed a daze. The only thing I hated about the ‘80s was school!
I was bullied for my what is now thankfully called neurodivergence. It consists of many found items, some online second-hand bought items and some items bought form the wonderful Reverse Garbage’ in Marrickville, a wonderful haven for creatives, saving hundreds of thousands of tonnes of factory offcuts and bric-a-brac, books, {got some coloured cassettes there} from going into landfill. Founded by passionate activists I 1975. This art represents my love for retro And has many of my pleasant memories {including poor Pluto still being a full planet!!} I wanted to showcase the ambient music my mother and I loved as well as popular trends and my favourite show The Transformers {Generation One} Little did I know back then I was a kind of transformer, transforming my past pain into joy
And creativity. I had fun creating this artwork, bringing back many, Many happy memories, those retro days seem a rainbow daze for me now.- Materials

Maternal Archive explores the intergenerational bond between mother and daughter through a fragmented ceramic composition assembled into a unified form. Constructed from tile-like elements, it reflects how relationships are shaped through memory, care, shared experience, and emotional inheritance. A traditional Chilean smoking technique was used to create the effect of aged paint, producing atmospheric surface tones that evoke time, memory, and wear.
Clay functions as both material and metaphor—fragile yet strengthened through fire—mirroring the resilience of family bonds across distance, migration, and generations. Drawing from personal and cultural heritage, the work reflects on identity, belonging, and material memory within intimate lived experience.- Materials

This felted wool composition of sunflowers explores light, growth, and quiet resilience through a tactile, layered process. Created using sheep and alpaca wool, the work reflects the transformation of raw, natural fibres into cohesive organic forms through slow making. The sunflower motif suggests warmth, connection, and shared direction, arranged as a collective presence rather than individual blooms.
As an Australian citizen born in Chile, my practice is informed by an in-between cultural identity. Working with natural fibres connects me to memory, place, and landscape, allowing me to shape material into forms that reflect both grounding and movement across experience.- Materials

- DOG OF TIME
- Artist
- Felix Morgan
- Artist Statement
This dog was built slowly over six months, piece by piece, like a friendship. Its body is made from fragments, curves, straps and memories, yet it still stands as a dog: loyal, curious and alive.
The work explores resilience. We are all assembled from broken experiences, mistakes, dreams and repairs. What matters is not perfection, but the spirit that continues forward.
Like an old companion waiting patiently by the door, this sculpture reminds us that love survives every crack.Short Story
A stray dog wandered through six months of seasons. Every week it collected something new: a curve from the moon, a ribbon from a traveller, a broken branch from a storm, and a smile from a child. By the end of its journey, the dog was no longer made of clay alone. It was made of stories. Though stitched together from many pieces, it remained whole, carrying the wisdom that everything broken can become beautiful again.- Material

- Lanterns in the Crowd
- Artist
- Elizabeth Youssef
- Artist Statement
Lanterns in the Crowd explores the relationship between truth-telling and belonging through the image of individual lights shining within a collective space. Each lantern (car) symbolizes a personal story, voice, or identity — distinct on its own, yet stronger when gathered among others. The artwork reflects how honesty and self-expression can guide people toward connection, understanding, and community.
Through the interplay of light and shadow, the piece represents both vulnerability and hope. Speaking one’s truth can feel isolating, but shared experiences create pathways for belonging and acceptance. Lanterns in the Crowd invites viewers to consider how communities are shaped not by conformity, but by the courage of individuals who choose to be seen, heard, and acknowledged.

- Artist
- Elizabeth Youssef
- Artist Statement
Roots of Truth explores the connection between honesty, identity, and belonging. The work reflects how truth-telling can ground us, like roots beneath a tree, creating strength, connection, and understanding between people and communities. Through layered forms and interconnected elements, the artwork represents personal stories, cultural memory, and the courage it takes to be seen authentically.
The piece invites viewers to consider how belonging is not created through sameness, but through the sharing and acknowledgment. Truth becomes a foundation for healing, acceptance, and collective growth. Just as roots grow unseen yet hold everything together, honest voices sustain relationships, communities, and a sense of home.

- Unhidden
- Artist
- Elizabeth Youssef
- Artist Statement
Unhidden explores the power of truth-telling as an act of belonging. The artwork reflects the experience of revealing parts of ourselves that are often concealed through fear, judgement, or exclusion. By bringing hidden stories, identities, and emotions into the light, the piece challenges the silence that can separate individuals from community and connection.
Through contrast, texture, and layered imagery, Unhidden represents vulnerability as strength rather than weakness. The work suggests that belonging begins when people are able to exist authentically and be accepted without needing to hide who they are. It invites viewers to reflect on the importance of honesty, visibility, and shared understanding in creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected.
