Sustainability Update
September 2025
Since the Winter newsletter, we have spoken to over 70 tenants across five TAGs about sustainability priorities. We have also continued working with universities and advocating to government to continue making our homes more sustainable.
Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI)
The SHEPI program will provide solar systems, ceiling insulation and fans, draught proofing, and LED lighting upgrades to 100 homes.
This is what we heard and how that has helped us move forward:
Thermal comfort
We heard that homes can be too cold in winter and too hot in summer.
We will continue this work and advocate for more funding.
We will work with universities to get stronger evidence.
We heard suggested various home upgrades
We won funding to upgrade 100 homes
We will provide upgrades to those 100 homes
Energy efficiency and costs
We heard that energy bills are too high and increasing.
The SHEPI program will lower energy costs for 100 homes.
We will continue to provide energy saving tips and tricks in newsletters.
We heard that you would like to replace gas appliances with electric.
Unfortunately, there are no current schemes or rebates for this.
We will let you know as any schemes or rebates arise.
Communication
We heard you’d like regular, clear sustainability updates.
We started regular updates in the tenant newsletter.
We will keep providing updates at TAG’s and the newsletter.
Prioritising
We heard that you would like us to prioritise poorer performing properties for upgrades.
We targeted homes requiring more upgrades than others.
We will identify next properties to target for upgrades.
