Bridge Housing was thrilled to host Simon Duffy AM, the new CEO of Botanic Gardens of Sydney, on a tour of our Elger Street community garden in Glebe.

The rooftop garden showcases the Botanic Garden’s award-winning outreach program, Community Greening, which “connects people, plants, and places to empower local communities”.

During the visit, tenant champions Jonathan and Christine shared stories on the produce – herbs, vegetables, and ornamental plants. As founding members of the Elger Street Garden community, they have worked with the Botanic Gardens team for over five years, sharing the seasons and their ideas.

“The co-design model used by Community Greening Manager Phil Pettitt and his team is pivotal to building community connections for our residents. They generously share their knowledge with our active gardeners, empowering them to design, build, plant and maintain the gardens.

All the residents, regardless of their green thumbs, come to the gardens to connect with nature and each other – a green oasis in the middle of a bustling city,” said Jamie Brewer, Acting COO for Bridge Housing.
