What we have achieved

As our first Reconciliation Action Plan draws to a close, we have achieved 94% of the actions that we set out to complete, including:

  • Increased the number of Aboriginal staff we employ
  • Implemented cultural competency training for all staff
  • Developed strong partnerships with Aboriginal support organisations
  • Supported the Flag Raising Ceremony during NAIDOC Week at the Redfern Community Centre each year
  • Been represented at NAIDOC Day celebrations and the Yabun festival
  • Implemented a Welcome to Country Policy across the organisation
  • Hosted two art exhibitions showcasing the talented artists in the tenant community supported by the ATTAG
  • Engaged with Aboriginal suppliers to build our procurement processes.

How it began

Endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, the plan has been developed through an extensive engagement process with our Aboriginal tenants, Bridge Housing staff, the broader tenant community and local Aboriginal organisations. It has been a collaborative process, with workshops to develop our vision for reconciliation and the range of practical strategies we will undertake over the next two years of the Plan.

The Plan commits to a number of actions that practically promote inclusion and opportunities for Aboriginal people and their communities through the work we do as a community housing provider – in our service delivery with applicants and tenants, in the way we procure services and in the way we employ and support staff.

It was launched on 15 March 2017 at the Redfern Community Centre by Bridge Housing with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tenant Advisory Group.
